GILLETTE, Wyo. – Feb. 14, 2023 – Loren Lomax has been Campbell County Health’s Interim Surgical Services Director since July 2022. With over 30 years of experience, Loren has seen his fair share of hospitals and operating rooms. Loren was drawn to his interim role with CCH because of Devil’s Tower and all the outdoor recreation opportunities available in Northeastern Wyoming. Gillette has been quite an adjustment for Loren, who is based out of Russellville, Arkansas. He faced and survived his first blizzard this winter, but Loren feels right at home here despite the drastically different climate. Loren has also become quite fond of CCH, describing it as a gem among other hospitals.

“CCH is a very unique hospital; it’s a gem,” said Lomax. “There aren’t many rural hospitals out there like CCH, especially with operating rooms like ours. The support we have, the resources we have, the opportunities – it’s amazing.”

Loren always had a passion for medicine, and right out of high school started LPN school. Soon afterward, Loren joined the US Navy and served on active duty for six years. During Loren’s time in the Navy, he first experienced working in operating rooms. Since then, the operating room has been a second home for Loren.

“The OR has always been my passion,” said Lomax. “Patients come in to get something fixed, to somehow improve their well-being or lifestyle, and they get to leave with those improvements. The OR is a fast-paced, positive environment where we can profoundly impact our patients’ lives.”

Loren obtained his Master of Science in Nursing Administration and Emergency Management from Arkansas Tech University in May 2011.

Outside of work, besides the outdoor recreation opportunities that Loren loves about Wyoming, he is an avid chef.

“I do cakes – birthday, wedding, and all kinds of cakes,” said Lomax. “I also cook, and I bring the food in for my staff. If I can provide a meal for my staff and their families, alleviate some of the load on them – that’s what I truly enjoy doing.”

CCH is proud to have Loren as our Interim Surgical Services Director. Loren brings substantial experience to the organization and has been tirelessly working towards enhancing our surgical services so that they are sustainable far into the future and truly represent Excellence Every Day.
