City of Riverton recently issued the following announcement.

On March 22, 2022, Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs was formally presented with the Global Statesman Award from the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) at a ceremony held at the Old Dome Meeting Hall in Riverton in front of friends, family and leaders across the community. The award was presented in recognition of Staggs’ leadership on why leading globally matters locally.

“Our organization is pleased to recognize Mayor Staggs for his leadership and advocacy for U.S. leadership in the world,” said Luke Wenz, deputy national outreach director for the western region at USGLC. “It is critical that local officials throughout our country lead with a global perspective and Mayor Staggs is a fantastic example of that.”

Lew Cramer, one of Utah’s most prominent leaders in international trade and commerce, and co-chair of USGLC’s Utah advisory committee, presented Staggs with the award.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized with the Global Statesman Award,” said Mayor Trent Staggs. “I invite all to join me in continuing to advocate for and defend our nation’s leadership on the world stage by ensuring the principles that built our country into what it is are maintained and protected: a robust national defense, limited government, individual liberty, free markets, and constitutional government.”

Staggs was one of a bipartisan group of 91 mayors from across the country selected as a 2021 Global Statesman Award Winner by USGLC, an organization that advocates for policies, budget and action that place the United States in a position of leadership in the world. USGLC brings together American businesses, non-governmental organizations, community leaders, national security experts and foreign policy experts to promote increased support for development, diplomacy and defense that contribute to strong U.S. global leadership.
